Kelly Slater is ten times ASP world champion and is passionate about the ocean. So much so, that in 2007 he established the Kelly Slater Foundation. Registered as a ‘not for profit’ public benefit corporation in Los Angeles, its mission is to raise awareness and financial support for existing social and environmentally conscious charities. The Kelly Slater Foundation is supported through fundraising events, donations from corporations, alongside whatever financial assistance individuals kindly offer.
Born 11th February 1972, Robert Kelly Slater has earned ASP Championship status 10 times. 5 of which were consecutively achieved between 1994 and 1998. In 1997 Slater overtook Austrailian surfing legend Mark Richards to become the most successful champion ever. In May 2005 Slater was the first surfer to ever to have been given two perfect scores under the ASP’s two wave scoring system, resulting in a total of 20 out of 20 points.
Kelly Slater has, naturally, been in many films such as “Surfers – The Movie” (1990), “One Night At McCool’s” (2001) and “Ultimate Wave Tahiti” (2010) to name but a few of the 20 something total. Slater has also released an autobiography entitled “Pipe Dreams; A Surfers Journey” (2003) and, in 2008, released a second book with Phil Jarratt called “Kelly Slater: For The Love”. And before you ask, yes, you can of course find copies of these in our shop.
